100% Electric New Build Slipperlaunch. 2022

'Touch Wood' is a classic Thames slipper launch with a modern twist. Hand built as a personal project over nearly 20 years by Mark Williams - with the woodwork complete we were approached in late 2022 to arrange installation of the electric powertrain.

Following a visit to view and measure the boat, The Electric Boat Company recommended a 4kW WaterWorld electric motor which would provide ample power for inland waterways use and perfectly fit the space available.

The state-of-the-art brushless motor results in maintenance free operation while an integrated electronic controller closely monitors all aspects of the system to ensure smooth and safe operation. Real time information is clearly displayed on the 5" full colour led screen including remaining battery and run time.

Paired with a minimalist throttle to control speed, this system fits the boat without drawing too much attention to itself.

The 48V 235Ah Lead-Acid battery bank was chosen to flexibly suit the space available and deliver the range required for the anticipated use. Cruising at 4knts using less than half the available power allows for an extended runtime of up to 6 hours.

Following our work to electrify this stunning slipper launch we delivered the boat to local traditional boatbuilders Henwood and Dean to add the finishing aesthetic touches.
